Mumtaz Ali Shah retired as the Chief Secretary Sindh in March 2022, after serving more than 37 years in Civil Service of Pakistan. He previously served as Federal Secretary Maritime Affairs and Religious Affairs, Pakistan. Considering his impeccable integrity and extraordinary achievements he was elevated to the highest position in Civil Service in 2017. Positions he held in provinces include Home Secretary Sindh, Chairman Enquiries & Anti-Corruption Establishment, Deputy Commissioner, District Magistrate and Magistrate First Class in districts of Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan provinces. In those positions he conducted inquiries, supervised investigations and presided the Courts as Magistrate.


His career is also marked by a noteworthy tenure in public sector corporate governance. As Managing Director at the Sindh Small Industries Corporation, he brought major reforms in the organization. As CEO National Insurance Co. Ltd., he steered the company through complex insurance landscapes with acumen. As Chairman Export Processing Zones Authority, he played a crucial role in enhancing Pakistan’s export capabilities. He led a high level maritime mission to the Netherlands, represented Government of Pakistan in International Maritime Organization at their headquarters in London and international maritime conference at Shanghai China.

Mumtaz Ali Shah has attended prestigious training programs both in Pakistan and internationally which include Leadership Training Course at Harvard University, USA, International Training Course at the Department of Corrections, Colorado, USA, Total Quality Management Training Course in Sweden and Corporate Governance Leadership Skills (CGLS) – Director Education Program by PICG in Karachi. He has diverse insights into global practices and policies.
